This is a numbered plate block of 4 stamps as pictured. * * * On January 20 2007 in New York, NY the USPS issued the 30th installment of the Black Heritage Series honoring Ella Jane Fitzgerald, also known as Lady Ella and the First Lady of Song. Fitzgerald was considered one of the most influential jazz vocalists of the 20th century. With a vocal range spanning three octaves, she was noted for her purity of tone, phrasing and intonation, and a horn-like improvisational ability, particularly in her scat singing. She is widely considered to have been one of the supreme interpreters of the Great American Songbook. During her career, she recorded over 200 albums, won 13 Grammy awards, and sold over forty million albums. She once stated that the only thing better than singing is more singing.
